Solar Car Challenge

The Inaugural Inner West Model Solar Car Challenge 2008 was a great success with 30 cars built by a keen group of more than 50 Newtown Public School students. We learned a lot about wiring and friction in the process at science club and I'm pleased to say that everyone's car was capable of racing at the end. We had most success racing at lunchtime as our school is beautiful shady place!

Start building your model solar cars for the inaugural Inner West Model Solar Car Challenge during September 2009. Kits are available through us or direct from Technology Education Centre (www.tecc.cc). The kit is the TS0399 with TWO solar panels, as being used in the other model solar car challenges around Australia.

The kit includes teacher's notes as well as sufficient materials to provide students with design opportunities to construct, with variations, a simple vehicle powered by a small motor connected to 2 solar cells. We look forward to more school's being involved in 2009.
