In 2009, Science Club is utilizing the fantastic Fizzics Education team to provide quality hands on workshops, using the latest equipment. Fizzics Education also provide science shows to schools, museums and special events. They are accreditated by the Dept. of Education and the workshops have been chosen in consultation with the school to complement the curriculum at Newtown Public School in 2009. What Science Club offers is a chance to work at an advanced level in a very small group with a qualified teacher. Every Science Club afternoon will have an 1 1/2 hr Advanced Workshop aimed at Years 3-6 ($20) from 3 to 4.30pm and a 1 hr Introductory Workshop aimed at any age ($15) from 4.30 to 5.30pm. Book via andra@newtownkids.com or NPS office. Parents are free. Term One - Robotics was fantastic! Term Two has 2 workshops on Electricity and Magnetism. The May 11th workshop showed off a Van de Graaf generator which was 100,000 volts worth of hair raising fun. The 2nd workshop on May 25th will involve building circuits as well. Bookings not yet taken for Term 3 and 4 but planned workshops are: Renewable Energy, Astronomy, Maths for Science and Engineering NEWS: Some classes will be growing alum crystals for the RACI NSW big crystal competition due June 19th.
